Although not adopted as policy by Council, the Bowen Island Housing Needs Assessment and Affordable Housing Strategy completed in 2007 are important building blocks in moving forward to diversify Bowen’s housing stock to meet community needs.

Bowen Island’s work to develop the tools and capacity to diversify its housing choices was featured in a widely distributed tool kit for Creating Market and Non-Market Affordable Housing. Published in 2008 by Smart Growth BC, the toolkit featured a set of case studies created by Deborah Curran and Tim Wake, who as served as affordable housing consultant in Bowen Island’s work and in many other municipalities.
